The training for puppies who are in the service dog program start as early as 6 weeks of age. Play and socialization are a very important in a puppy’s development. The puppy must be handled by lots of different people, exposed to all sorts of sounds, smells, textures, and play with other puppies to develop bite inhibition. They also need time with mom after they are weaned to learn their boundaries with adult dogs.
